Impact of Internet Resources on Immigrant Owned Micro Enterprise Profits in Greensboro, N.C.

In the fall 2022, I will conduct extensive literature reviews on the characteristics of immigrant entrepreneurs, the past work of Dr. Mussa Idris in association with the North Carolina African Services Coalition, and the accessibility of the internet to immigrant entrepreneurs. I will primarily use peer-reviewed journal articles in business anthropology, immigrant entrepreneurship, microenterprise, international business, applied anthropology, and internet anthropology and accessibility. My research will study immigrant owned microenterprises in association with the North Carolina Services Coalition. I will study the impact of internet-based resources on profits in these microenterprises. These resources are internet advertisements, social media presence, online merchandising, and shipping of products through mail. My hypothesis is that the usage of online resources will result in an increase in profits. Dr. Mussa Idris, associate professor of anthropology, has already introduced me with the NCASC organization, and I will work with it over the summer to build rapport. I will establish rapport with several microenterprises and find my sample businesses, work with said businesses to create an online presence, and complete a research paper and prepare a poster for Student Undergraduate Research Forum (SURF) presentation. This undergraduate research will also help me advance my upper-level credit hours, as well as combine my educations in anthropology, journalism, and French into one large-scale project.
