John Luke Farah is a Charlotte, North Carolina native and is studying for an anthropology and journalism double major at Elon University. His goal is to work in immigration, and his plan is to attend law school following his graduation in 2024.
In the summer of 2022, Farah began his own communications business, Farah Communications. The Instagram-based service provides logo and advertisement design, photography and videography, resume design and writing services. Alongside his journalistic pursuits, Farah conducted faculty-mentored research under Dr. Mussa Idris. The research was in collaboration with the North Carolina African Services Coalition. He studied the impact of free and low-cost online resources, such as Google Workspace, Instagram advertising and social media marketing strategy and photography, on African immigrant and refugee-owned microenterprises. Farah is proud to have presented his research at the Society for Applied Anthropology's 83 annual conference as well as at Elon University's SURF day. Outside of school and work, Farah served as an assistant with the Take On Sports organization, which helps children and adults with special needs play sports. Farah’s sister was born with Down Syndrome, and through her he has made a close connection to the special needs community in Charlotte.
His hobbies include playing basketball and guitar while also making tea and reading in his free time. Farah is also a photographer. He enjoys photographing sports, plants, and his favorite, animals.
