My name is Jessie Cordwell and I am a third year student at Elon University. I am a student in
the school of communications, majoring in Strategic Communications. I am originally from
Chicago, Illinois.
Growing up, my parents had a huge influence on the movies we watched. I remember being no
older than eight and my dad playing Mysterious Island, directed by Cy Endfield, on repeat. From
then on the thought of giant crabs have haunted my dreams, although I remember how bright
the film itself was.
In sixth grade, my English teacher would dedicate Thursdays to free writing. I fell in love with
writing during this time. Writing fictional adventures was a great escape from the agonizing life
of a middle schooler. Since then I have had the opportunity to explore different types of composition
such as poetry, which I have since discovered is not my strong suit, and screenwriting, which I have
since discovered is my passion. I have been fortunate enough to take two different screenwriting courses
at two different institutions; those being Elon and The Second City in Chicago.
My passion for screenwriting solidified when I joined Elon After Hours, Elon's own late night talk show.
Not only has working on After Hours presented me with new opportunities such as directing and producing,
but I have also had the opportunity to work with a team of diverse, passionate and witty writers who are
as passionate as I am about the work we create.
Now, I am in my third year of college, hopeful for the future where I plan on becoming a screenwriter and
working in creative content and entertainment development.
