About Me

Hello! My name is Leila Jackson and I am currently a sophomore at Elon University with a major in journalism and a minor in french. I have always been an avid writer and passionate about journalism. In middle school I was the editor-in-chief of my school magazine, writing about issues around my school and county. In high school I wrote for my school newspaper, Silver Chips, as a junior staff writer and I became one of the news section editors my senior year. I am really interested in issues of social justice and would love to work as an investigative journalist. I also speak French fluently.

At Elon I work at the Office of University Communications, writing articles for Elon Today, the university’s news website and the Magazine of Elon. I also help out with social media coverage for events on campus, taking photos and uploading posts. I am the vice president of "Students for Peace and Social Justice", a club where we talk about national and local social justice issues and partner with other groups on campus for different events.

I was born in South Africa and lived there until 2009 when I moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. Before coming to Elon I attended Montgomery Blair High School where I was in the Communication Arts Magnet Program, a magnet program focused on the humanities and media.
