Leah Day is a first-year Communications Design major at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. She has studied at Hidden Valley High School and the Burton Center for Arts and Technology, and worked as an intern for a local design company — all of which occurring in her hometown of Roanoke, Virginia. She is a Communications Fellow, and plans to double minor in Digital Art and Multimedia Authoring. She also has the intention of graduating early to kickstart her design career.

Influences:
Past: Her teachers from Burton for English and Mass Communications Elizabeth Chapman (former) Eric Salo (latter)
Present: Her fellow Fellows, as well as the rest of her peers.

Writing heroes include Ted Tally, who wrote the screenplay for the 1991 horror film “Silence of the Lambs, and David Birke, the screenplay writer for “Slender Man” (2018) - the latter, simply for showing her how not to write a successful movie. Day hopes to better develop her skill as a writer, both as a personal goal and to expand her range of abilities for her future career. She also aspires to become a more valuable asset to her peers as a source of feedback and advice when called upon.

Day has a plethora of Communications interests, and she's grateful for all of the opportunities she's been given to explore the field thus far. At the Burton Center in high school, she gained knowledge and experience with different kinds of computers, interfaces and programs, which has allowed her to develop preferences in technology. Her internship allowed her to explore the varying aspects of web design - from coding to graphics to animation. Now, as an Elon student, she's been given the opportunity to tour companies in several cities on the east coast and learn how to network with professionals, setting up relationships for the future.
