Facebook is an ideal place for companies to promote themselves because there is no time urgency, like twitter, or media requirement, like Instagram. Twitter advertisements can be accounts, tweets, videos, trends or other interactive medias that are promoted so that users can see the ads whether they are logged into twitter or not. Once logged in, a user may notice that the ads are tailored more to be more personal. Twitter will take a user’s account information and history to determine the best or most affective ads for that specific user. Twitter creates an extremely large platform that is compatible with words, videos, images and other interactive media. This gives the companies more variety in their advertisement campaigns. Even though Twitter is not as large as Facebook when it comes to users, twitter is much faster in its growth rate. Companies who use twitter must be aware that their advertisements are expected to be timely and relevant because Twitter is known for relaying information extremely fast. This makes it very easy for businesses to potential have their advertisements go viral and spread to many consumers in a matter of minutes.
Instagram is very similar to all the previously mention social media platform, however, it is unique in that it only caters to photos and videos. This is a harder platform for some companies to use because it is all about the aesthetics of the photo or video. To advertise well on Instagram, a business must put time and energy into the visual aspect of their business. Instagram, like facebook, has the option to “promote” a post with a fee, as well as the buy now option.
Pinterest is unique in its advertising abilities because it is basically a social media built to advertise. Whether it’s a blog or a business, pins will link consumers to the businesses’ website or a place to purchase the product. It does not require frequent posting for effectiveness, however, it is a very category or niche based social media. This means it is not a good platform for every business. It is ideal for fashion, food or photography based companies, but still works with other business advertisements as well. Like Instagram, Pinterest only has links to photos or videos.
