What We Do

Grilled Cheese

Every fall, Alpha Phi Omega hosts a “Grilled Cheese Please” fundraiser. Our brothers volunteer to make and deliver gilled cheese sandwiches, cups of tomato soup, and chocolate chip cookies to students across Elon University’s campus. This year, all of our proceeds went to the SPCA of Wake County, a no-kill animal shelter in North Carolina.

Many of our brothers enjoy going to Positive Attitude Youth Center every week. This community partner strives to provide youth of the community with a positive learning and social environment. There, our brothers play with the children and help tutor them while they are doing their homework.

Some of our brothers also volunteer with the May Memorial Library in Burlington, North Carolina. In the past, many of our brothers have tutored there during their after-school program, helped with their “Friends of the Library Book Sale,” and helped decorate for different seasons, like this picture from when they helped make and put up paper snowflakes!

Some of our brothers have gone to the Conservators Center, located in Burlington, North Carolina. This community partner is an educational non-profit organization dedicated to providing specialized homes for select carnivore species, like Lions, Tigers, and Bearcats. Our volunteers have helped run events at this center, and have loved being able to do so close to really cool animals.

LoyFarm

Many of our brothers that like to be outdoors volunteer at the Environmental Center at Loy Farm at Elon University. At Loy Farm functions include food and farming systems, as well as long-term ecological research. Our volunteers do many things, but some of their favorites are picking vegetables for the Campus Kitchen program and working with the compost.

We are very proud of the fact that our chapter sponsors a section of road in Burlington, North Carolina. Four times each year, we go out and clean our highway. Many of our brothers enjoy this event because it gives them time to hang out with their brothers while doing service.
