The Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) is a multi-national peace keeping mission in the Sinai penninsula. The MFO originated as a result of the 1979 Camp David Accords and was implemented as a means to keep peace between Israel and Egypt. Initially, both parties requested the United Nations to provide a force and observers to supervise the implementation of the Treaty. When the Israel and Egypt did not obtain approval from the UN the parties negotiated an alternative prototcol, establishing the MFO as the peacekeeping force.
Twelve nations contribute personell to the mission (Australia, Canada, Colombia, the Czech Republic, the Republic of the Fiji Islands, France, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, the United Kingdom, the United States and Uruguay). As of September 2016, the MFO's Force numbered 1365 personnel.
