How To Make A Robot Costume

I know a little girl who has wanted to be a robot for as long as she can remember — a dancing robot, to be precise. The best thing about being a kid is letting your imagination run wild. The best thing about being a grown-up is being able to make a child’s dreams come to life. Introducing the BoogieBot 5000, the best robot Halloween costume ever.

Materials

  • Corrugated cardboard box
  • Silver spray paint
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Silver dryer hose
  • Bike helmet

Directions

  1. Hold box against child’s torso and mark cutouts for neck and armholes. Cut a deep semicircle hole for neck; for legs, cut out a rectangle, leaving a 2” lip on each side. For arms, cut holes slightly wider than dryer hose.
  2. In a well-ventilated area, use silver spray paint to coat outside of box.
  3. Wrap bike helmet in foil; glue foil in place. Decorate with twisted pipe cleaners and buttons.
  4. Cut two pieces dryer hose to length of child’s arm. Cover any sharp edges with layers of duct tape. Put sweat suit and box on child, then fit dryer hose over arms. Secure with safety pins to sleeves.

Voila! Robot costume! Customize the costume with buttons, foam, pipe cleaners, and the like!
